4 Patch Fancy 12" Finished Block

This is the 12" finished block of Shirley's 4-patch fancy block.



Assembly


  • Cut 4 - 8 1/2" squares - 1 solid black, 1 solid white, 1 Black with White and 1 White with black
  • Number squares from left to right
  • Place squares on top of each other from 1 to 4
  • Trim overlapping sides


  •  Cut 2 - 1" strips from right side of all 4 squares


  •  Separate squares out in order as shown


  •  Alternate 1" strips as below. Stitch together rows


  •  Fold lower section over top section, right sides together



  •  Make a quarter turn to the left


  •  Straighten right side and cut 2 - 1" strips from side


  •  Open pieces out as shown


  •  Alternate 1" strips as shown


  • Stitch strips together
  • Trim block to12 1/2" square and enjoy!

DHWQ Week 50 - Guest Blogger 4-patch fancy

Shirley Peterson is back with us again presenting the 4-patch Fancy Block. A very easy but impressive block that would look great in any fabric.



Assembly


  • Cut 4 - 6" squares - 2 light, 2 dark
  • Number squares from left to right
  • Place squares on top of each other from 1 to 4
  • Trim overlapping sides


  •  Cut 2 - 1" strips from right side of all 4 squares


  •  Separate squares out in order as shown


  •  Alternate 1" strips as below. Stitch together rows


  •  Fold lower section over top section, right sides together

DHWQ Guest - Week 42 Twisted Triangles

Shirley Petersen is presenting this wonderful block as a part of the Desperate Housewife's Quilt challenge.


Cutting

From 6 difference fabrics cut:

  • 2 -  3" x 3" squares
This will make 12 HST in total

Assembly

HST's ( Piece A )
  • Pair Fabric 1 with Fabric 3, Fabric 2 with Fabric 5 and Fabric 4 with Fabric 6
  • Lay squares right side together and draw a diagonal pencil line on the wrong side of one of the squares
  • sew 1/4" either side of the line
  • cut on pencil line to yield 2 HST's
  • trim back to 2 1/4" x 2 1/4"
  • Make 12
Centre Blocks ( Piece B )
  • Cut 2 - 3" x 3" squares from Fabric 1 and cut on the diagonal to yield 4 triangles
  • Cut 1 - 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" square from Fabric 1 and 5 and make 2 HST's using the technique described above.
  • Cut once diagonally across each HST to yield 4 QST (Quarter Square Triangles)
  • Sew QST to triangle and trim to 2 1/4"
  • Make 4

Finish Block
  • Sew pieces together to make a row
  • Sew 4 rows together

Unfinished block size 8 1/2"
